17-Year-Old Fatally Stabbed at Shurugwi Night Club
A 17-year-old teenager from Shurugwi met a tragic end on New Year’s Day when he was fatally stabbed by unknown assailants at Cheeky Tiger night club.
Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident, identifying the victim as Tawanda Muzvihwi.
Muzvihwi had gone to Cheeky Tiger night club at Donga business center in Shurugwi with a friend of the same age to watch television. The friend left the club, leaving Muzvihwi alone. Around 11 pm, a passerby discovered Muzvihwi’s lifeless body near the night club and notified the police at Tongogara. Upon inspection, the police found a stab wound on the left side of his chest. The body was then taken to Shurugwi District Hospital.
In a separate incident at Beauty Mine cocktail bar in Mberengwa, a 24-year-old man, Farai Mapuranga, was stoned and stabbed during a dispute over a sex worker. Mahoko reported that Mapuranga had an argument with Simbarashe Chirume over a lady of the night around 1 am on January 2.
Chirume allegedly manhandled Mapuranga, and another man identified as Elliot emerged, striking Mapuranga twice on the head with a stone. Subsequently, Chirume reportedly pulled out a knife from his pocket and stabbed Mapuranga twice before fleeing the scene. Mapuranga staggered about 80 meters before collapsing and succumbing to his injuries.
These incidents highlight the disturbing trend of violence in entertainment venues and underscore the need for increased security measures to ensure the safety of patrons. The police are actively investigating both cases to bring the perpetrators to justice.
