The 22-year-old from Lukaka Village, Siganda Maleni Nyathi recently stood trial before the Inyathi Magistrates’ Court on charges of robbery.
The case revealed details of a violent crime involving theft, threats, and the use of a firearm.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe on November 1, 2024, the first victim, who owns a mine, finished paying his workers at one of his mining sites. Later, he went to another mine to visit his girlfriend, the second victim. The couple spent the night together.
In the early morning of the next day, Nyathi and several unknown accomplices went to Nkazimulo Gold Mine, where the couple was staying. They ordered the second victim to open the door, but she refused.

The group then broke into the house, threatened the victims, and demanded money.
Fearing for their safety, the first victim gave the robbers USD 200. The criminals also took his Astra pistol and cellphone. From the second victim, they stole USD 400 and two cellphones. Despite the robbery, the first victim recognized Nyathi during the incident.The Verdict
Nyathi was found guilty of robbery. He was sentenced to four years in prison, with one year suspended if he repays the victims. This means Nyathi will serve three years behind bars. His accomplices are still on the run.
This case highlights the dangers of criminal activity in the mining area and the need for continued vigilance to ensure community safety.
