This past weekend, Aaron Chaka, who represents himself as the son of legendary Mtukudzi, was turned away at the gate of the Oliver Mtukudzi International Festival of the Arts.
The two-day celebration honoring the memory of late music superstar DR. Oliver Mtukudzi, who passed away five years ago, was organized by Tuku music, but it was tainted by controversy and drama. The event took place at the Pakare Paye Arts Center.
His contributions to the arts and music have had a lasting influence on the community even after all these years.

This incident comes after Aaron Chaka ongoing court battle, which made news in July, to be acknowledged as a member of the Mtukudzi family.
In keeping with the festival atmosphere, one of Mtukudzi’s biological child, Selma Mtukudzi, was not originally on the bill of performers. To the relief of many fans, Selma was eventually added to the roster of performers following extensive rumors and discussions on social media.
The Festival seeks to honor and maintain Mtukudzi’s unique musical legacy and is planned to be a yearly event. However, in order to prevent the event from becoming a public spectacle, the organizers plan to settle internal family problems in later editions.
