Air Marshal John Jacob Nzvede has officially assumed command as the new Commander of the Air Force of Zimbabwe

Air Marshal John Jacob Nzvede has officially assumed command as the new Commander of the Air Force of Zimbabwe, succeeding Air Marshal Elson Moyo, who has retired.

In his commitment speech, Air Marshal Nzvede reiterated his dedication to ensuring the Air Force’s pivotal role in fostering a peaceful environment conducive to national development goals.

The transition of command took place following the conferment of new rank insignia at Defence Headquarters. This signified Air Marshal Nzvede’s promotion from air vice marshal by President Mnangagwa, effective from the previous day.

This promotion was carried out in accordance with the Defence Act, as outlined in Statutory Instrument 257 of 2020.

It grants the President the authority to make such promotions upon the recommendation of the Minister of Defence, acting on advice from the Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces.

At the handover ceremony held at Manyame Air Force Base, Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, General Philip Sibanda, stressed the importance of shared responsibility in achieving military objectives.

He praised Air Marshal Moyo for his efforts in advancing the vision and goals set by his predecessors, solidifying the Air Force of Zimbabwe’s reputation as a formidable force both domestically and internationally.

Acknowledging the challenges posed by sanctions on the country, General Sibanda commended Air Marshal Moyo for his proactive approach in overcoming obstacles and pursuing the nation’s development objectives.

Under Air Marshal Moyo’s leadership, significant progress was made in research and development, leading to the recovery and enhancement of various air assets and equipment for the Air Force.
