The Shoko Festival Comedy Night was electrified last night by the return of multi-award-winning comedian Learnmore Jonasi, fresh from his impressive performance on America’s Got Talent, which placed him in the fifth position. Despite a minor luggage mishap upon his arrival, Jonasi’s homecoming set the stage ablaze with a side-splitting performance that had the audience roaring with laughter.
The Harare Gardens, the festival’s main stage, was packed to capacity as fans eagerly awaited the first Zimbabwean stand-up comedian to reach the top five on the global platform. Dignitaries including the U.S. ambassador, Pamela M. Tremont, Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume, Execuve Director, National Arts Council of Zimbabwe, Napoleon Nyanhi, and local media personalities were in attendance to witness Jonasi’s triumphant return. Local comedians also came to support their own and probably take a few notes from Jonasi.
Jonathan’s comedic genius expertly navigated the cultural nuances of Zimbabwe, the U.S. and Africa, leaving the audience in stitches with his relatable humor and playful banter. His performance was a near sell-out, showcasing the enduring appeal of the Shoko Festival.
Supporting acts added to the evening’s success. Beatboxer Probeatz wowed the crowd with his unique rendition of the national anthem, while Tinashe “This Is It” kept the energy high with his impeccable timing and wit. Tanya Alex kicked off the comedy segment, setting the stage for a night of unforgettable laughter.
Shoko Festival, now in its 13th year, continues to be Zimbabwe’s premier arts and culture showcase. The festival, which began on Wednesday, will run until the 28th, celebrating creativity and free expression.
