Marondera-VETERAN reggae artiste Mic Inity (real name Mike Madamombe)’s anti-drug abuse concert in collaboration with the National Aids Council and Zichire lived up to its billing on Saturday night in Marondera.

The veteran crooner partnered with NAC and ZiChire and put the pedal to the metal in the fight against drug abuse by the youths through an event dubbed, “Marondera Unite Muzic” held at Ruzawi Sports Bar.
The event was punctuated by scintillating performances by Tocky Vibes, Guspy Warrior, Dhadza D, African Warrior Sound and House of Stone Band.
The crowd was mesmerised and the venue was packed.
The initiative is the first of a series of campaigns lined up said Mic Inity.
“We will do more campaigns, youth engagement programs and we have an intention of setting up a safe hub for youths where they get proffesional counselling,” he said.
ZiCHIRe is a community based organisation’s that is implanting several community initiatives such as the Brotha2brotha, which addresses SRHR,HIV and drug &substance use among men and young people.
Mic Inity ‘s initiative and synergies complements government efforts in the fight against drug and substance abuse through music.
President Mnangagwa recently launched the Zimbabwe Multi-Sectoral Drug and Substance Abuse Plan (2024-2030), a comprehensive approach to tackle the growing scourge of drug and substance abuse in the country.
Mnangagwa said drug abuse is a significant public health concern that threatens Zimbabwe’s development trajectory.
“This scourge knows no bounds. Affecting all socio-economic levels and religious groupings and destroying lives and families,” he was qouted as saying.
The President noted that global trends indicate that drug abuse results in 3.3 million deaths annually, with 15.3 million people suffering from drug use disorders.A
