Armed robbery took place at a Mukuru Money Transfer branch located at Makomva Shopping Centre in Glen View, Harare, yesterday morning.
The criminals made off with over US$2,700 and R2,350 in cash.
The incident occurred at around 10 AM when four suspects, who arrived in a black Toyota Mark X, entered the agency situated inside a pharmacy. Brandishing pistols, they held both customers and staff at gunpoint while demanding cash.
Witnesses reported hearing gunshots as the gang fled the scene, sparking chaos among shoppers in the bustling area.
It is believed the robbers may have been monitoring the location earlier in the day, waiting for a cash delivery to arrive. Shortly after the money was delivered, they struck, targeting a teller and a customer who had just withdrawn US$950. The gang managed to seize US$1,839 along with R2,350 before making their escape.

National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the robbery, stating, “We have established that four armed suspects stole US$2,789 and R2,350 before fleeing in a getaway vehicle. Investigations are ongoing, including efforts to determine whether the vehicle had registration plates.” Detectives from the CID Homicide Unit have been deployed to assist with the investigation.
In a separate incident, police are investigating a burglary in Newlands, Harare, which occurred on December 13, 2024. Unknown individuals broke into a residence on Abyone Drive and stole a cash box containing US$20,000 as well as a laptop.
Additionally, authorities in Marondera are probing a break-in at Rakodzi Estate on December 12, 2024. During the incident, burglars forced their way through the main entrance and stole firearms, including a Farbam shotgun, a Brno shotgun, and a BSA rifle, while the homeowner was away in Harare.
