An eerie discovery was made at the home of a female police officer in New Msasa, Harare, on Sunday morning when an empty coffin, stained with blood, was found in the yard. The unsettling incident was first reported by ZimLive.

Hatfield police confirmed the case in a report sent to the Officer Commanding Chitungwiza Police District.

The officer, Constable Eronia Payesa, 42, who works with Harare’s CBD Traffic unit, and her family were taken aback by the sight of the coffin when they awoke. Dumisani Mahahani, Payesa’s husband, informed the authorities of the bizarre occurrence.

According to police statements, the couple’s 10-year-old son, Tinashe Mahahani, was the last family member to return home around 6:30 PM the previous evening and had accidentally left the gate unlocked.

The shocking discovery was made by Lauren Simango, 34, who noticed the coffin while cleaning the yard. The coffin, measuring 160 cm by 57 cm, had been left just inside the gate. Upon opening the coffin, detectives found blood stains inside.
