Bobby Brown has expressed his “love and blessings” to the family of Cissy Houston, the late mother of his ex-wife, Whitney Houston. Cissy passed away on Monday at the age of 91 after receiving hospice care during her battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Despite their tumultuous relationship, which was marked by challenges, Bobby shared a joint statement with his wife, Alicia Etheredge-Brown, honoring Cissy’s memory. “Sending love and blessings to the Houston family during this time of great loss,” they said. “May she rest in peace and power. The Browns.”
Bobby and Whitney first crossed paths in 1989, eventually marrying in July 1992. They welcomed a daughter, Bobbi Kristina, who tragically died at the age of 22 in 2015 from lobar pneumonia after being found unresponsive in a bathtub. Her death followed a similar tragic pattern to her mother’s, who drowned in a hotel bathtub in 2012 at the age of 48 after years of battling drug addiction.
During their tumultuous 14-year marriage, Bobby faced legal troubles, including arrests for drunk driving and possession of drugs, while Whitney sought rehabilitation multiple times. A toxicology report revealed that Whitney had both prescription medications and cocaine in her system at the time of her death.
Cissy Houston was known for her fierce protectiveness over Whitney, continuously striving to help her daughter navigate the challenges of addiction throughout her life.
