BV Labien breaks Jinx
By Peter Tinashe Kaviya
Ritzy rumba outfit, BV Labien have finally broken a long standing jinx that had restricted their performances to a few Harare venues.
The group has in the past few months embarked on consistent tours of Masvingo and Mutare, a fete previously rare for the group in the past 15 years.
Recent performances on the road, have seen them securing a monthly slot at Mutare’s Club Mandisa a development band financier Sam “Ndingindi” Chamangwana sees as a testimony of growth.
“The boys have recently been in Mutare and their performances have seen them being given a monthly feature in Mutare. It is a positive move and I believe it’s a sign that the group’s fan base have grown from Harare to as far as Mutare,” said Chamangwana in an interview with Showbiz.
“The group is proving very popular in Mutare, and the facilities there are on- point, our popularity has earned the group a permanent monthly spot at a top Mutare club.”
Chamangwana also confessed that band is in process of rekindling their romance with old fans in the country.
“We have taken a stance to revisit our old fan base and for instance the show in Masvingo was a good revelation as we have seen that a lot of people out of Harare love Rhumba but it is up to us as a band to persuade them to attend the show,” said Chamangawana.
Penitent vocalist, Vevela Kasirori, who like the prodigal son, was recently re-admitted into the band after leading a splinter group a few years ago, says the unity in the band had helped the band excel.
“The band has been united of late, and no one has left, that has really helped in terms of consistency and the moral is really high. We have planned as a team and I believe that has helped us excel to the level that we are at right now,” Vevela said.
The 16 member group which is currently promoting their latest single titled Kune Mamero are set to roll out a series of live shows in a bid to boost the band’s visibility and profile.
Chamangwana believes the summer period will bring good fortunes for the Ngasuma boys.
“The turnouts recorded this winter are very encouraging and I hope when summer comes, the group will enjoy good outings,” Chamangwana said.
The MaLabel Chete hit makers currently have five albums to their name, namely Operation Chamangwana ,Kumba Handiende , MaLabel Chete, Vakorinde and their latest offering Ngondo Ngondo.
