CAF has officially announced that teams participating in the Afcon 2023 tournament in Ivory Coast can register up to twenty-seven players.
The competition, featuring twenty-four teams, will run from January 13 to February 11, 2024. All teams have submitted preliminary squads, and the final selections must be presented by January 3, according to a statement released by CAF.
The statement clarifies that the 27-player limit is an option, not an obligation. While the deadline for final squad submissions is January 3, 2023, only 23 players can be selected for each match during the tournament.
Additionally, a player can only be replaced in the final squad due to a serious injury, with approval from the CAF Medical Committee, no less than 24 hours before the team’s first match.
