Job Description:

As a Catering Trainer, you will be responsible for coordinating, planning, designing, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive training and personal development program for students at Young Africa.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate training sessions to enhance the capacity, self-esteem, skills, and knowledge of Catering trainees.
  • Provide activities to develop Catering trainees’ knowledge and skills, fostering independence.
  • Prepare a detailed implementation plan for Catering trainees’ IYDP component with a breakdown of monthly and weekly activities.
  • Deliver the Catering course throughout the year, utilizing available resources for comprehensive training.
  • Ensure training meets required learning outcomes, preparing students for industrial attachment, trade tests, or relevant certificates.
  • Integrate with program and training teams for planning, implementation, and execution.
  • Plan and organize training programs as needed.
  • Deliver Catering training based on the curriculum adopted by Young Africa.
  • Assign and assess students’ coursework, tests, exercises, and examinations in approved course modules.
  • Deliver Catering training through innovative and interactive methods, including participatory approaches and online teaching.
  • Keep records of all documents related to Catering training, beneficiary selection, and post-training evaluation.
  • Coordinate with the Vocational Training Principal and Monitoring & Evaluation Officer for monitoring and evaluation.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with organizations offering Catering services and programs.
  • Participate in Young Africa’s program dissemination activities and develop instructional materials.
  • Mainstream Catering modules into training sessions to prepare students for internships and job market entry.
  • Provide advice, education, and awareness programs on disease outbreaks and pandemics.
  • Administer first aid to students and staff as part of Catering training.
  • Assist in grant writing, reporting, and managing grants to support Catering training.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with community representatives, organizations, beneficiaries, and employers.
  • Collaborate with supervisor and YA’s Finance, Administration, and Procurement staff to process Purchase Requests for Catering training.
  • Stay informed about national initiatives and activities, expanding the Catering program’s network.
  • Personalize training to increase student participation.
  • Assist in securing attachments for students in Catering centers, hotels, lodges, restaurants, and other relevant organizations.
  • Follow up and assess students on attachment or industrial-based training.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Diploma in Education majoring in Catering or Diploma in Technical Vocational Education.
  • National Certificate in Catering plus Further Education Trainer’s Certificate (FETC) or Further Education Trainer’s Diploma (FETD).
  • Skilled Worker Class 1 (SW1) or Skilled Worker Class 2 (SW2) Certificate.
  • Counselling skills and the ability to counsel trainees.
  • Higher teaching/training qualification, trade testing examination work experience, and involvement are advantageous.
  • Minimum of 3 years active Catering Training experience, including Catering industrial work where applicable.
