Following information about Miss South Africa contender Chidimma Adetshina‘s nationality, Radio 2000 breakfast show DJ Sbu has expressed regret.
A status report on the current investigation of Adetshina’s citizenship was provided by the Department of Home Affairs in a media announcement.
The Department of Home Affairs stated in a statement that after receiving a request from the event organizers to confirm Adetshina’s citizenship, the department received written authorization from both the participant and her mother.
After posting a video on YouTube expressing his public support for the Miss SA contestant and requesting that people instead petition for change and something positive, DJ Sbu—who is also a co-owner of Mofaya energy drink, an official sponsor of the Miss SA pageant—received a lot of negative feedback on social media.
On Thursday morning, he publicly apologised on his breakfast show airing on Radio 2000.

“I’ve never been arrogant at all, I am a proponent of advocating for young people’s success. I humble myself as the law is taking its course.
“Anybody that I might have offended with any of the things I might have said on social media, regarding the Miss SA matter, I would like to apologise.
I am also a South African and I love young people doing great things and I will always advocate for young people going for their dreams.
“If the law has been broken, let the law take its course. Anybody that I might have offended out there, I would like to apologise unreservedly,” he said.
On Thursday, Adetshina released a statement on her Instagram page that she has withdrawn from the Miss SA pageant.
