Businessmen Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu have responded to the Zimbabwean Anti-Corruption Commission, stating that they are both out of the country and cannot be arrested or be able to attend ZACC.
Chimombe and Mpofu are alleged to have participated in the scandal involving election materials that were overpriced by US$40 million last year. The incident came to light when a leaked voice note from Wicknell Chivhayo circulated on social media and a letter was released by Mpofu and Chimombe.
The scandal came to light when a leaked voice note featuring businessman Wicknell Chivhayo circulated on social media, implicating the two men. Additionally, a letter allegedly written by Mpofu and Chimombe was released, further incriminating them.
According to reports, the election materials in question were procured from a foreign company at an inflated price, with the duo allegedly benefiting from the deal. ZACC wants to investigate the matter and has summoned Chimombe and Mpofu for questioning. However, the two men claim they are currently outside of Zimbabwe and unable to comply with the summons.
“Our clients are currently out of the country and will not be able to attend any interview until their return to Zimbabwe; however, they are willing to operate fully with the investigations and are available to attend any requested interview upon their return,” said Antonio and Dzvetero, who are representing the duo.
The anti-corruption commission has vowed to pursue the matter and ensure that justice is served. The scandal has sparked outrage and calls for accountability in Zimbabwe, with many demanding that those responsible be brought to book. The incident has also raised concerns about corruption and the misuse of public funds in the country.
ZACC wants to ensure that they face justice in Zimbabwe. The commission has also urged anyone with information about any scandal to come forward and assist in curbing corruption.
