Chin’ono Mocks ZRP over Service Kit Donation

Hopewell Chin'ono to buy mental health medication for Zimbabweans in need

Award-winning journalist Hopewell Chin’ono has blasted the Zimbabwe Republic Police for receiving donations in the form of a service kit from a private citizen.

This incident has drawn attention from many social media users who are blasting the ZRP for receiving the donations instead of folking out from their coffers and buying the kits for themselves.

The incident took place in Bikita, where community members gathered to witness the donations of the service kits.

“Pano tiri pahomestead ya Abraham Chimuriwo akuita handle over service kit to ZRP Bikita yemota inoshanda muno muBikita,”  said a man who was filming the video.

“We are grateful for the service kit that we have received, and the citizen handed over the service kit to an uniformed female officer and a man who was not in inform.

The man continued thanking the private citizen who donated the kits, imploring him to continue doing the good work in line with the President’s mantra, nyika inovakwa nevene vayo.

However, Hopewell Chin’ono blasted the ZRP for receiving the service kits. “Dear Africans, This is how Zimbabwe has gone from bad to worse, sinking from the gutter into the sewer. A private citizen donates a service kit for a government-owned police car, and the whole community is called to celebrate it,” said Chin’ono.

“Another irony is that this car operates in areas called Bikita; it is known for its rich deposits of lithium-bearing minerals,”  Hopewell continued.

Hopewell said he was worried as to why ZRP had to receive donations, especially in a town like Bikita where riches lie. “The area is home to the Bikita mine, which holds one of the largest known deposits of lithium, estimated at approximately 11 million metric tons.

Hesten James:

This is embarrassing. A service kit in SA is like R950, including spark plugs and 5 liters of oil. So the community is invited to witness a donation of $50. Takaroiwa nevakafa.

However, some social media users defended the ZRP for receiving the donations.

What is wrong when someone chooses to donate to the state? Does that mean the state can’t afford service yet they have purchased that car? It doesn’t make sense, Hopewell Chin’ono??
