Chitungwiza Council Incompetent, Inefficient – Minister Garwe
Local Government and Public Works Minister, Honourable Daniel Garwe, has lambasted the Chitungwiza Council, labeling it as incompetent and inefficient.
Minister Garwe made the remarks last week while on a familiarization tour of the Victoria Falls Urban Renewal Programme.
While expressing satisfaction with the progress made by most local authorities in meeting the June 30 deadline to submit master plans, Garwe singled out Harare and Chitungwiza as lagging behind due to “delinquency, incompetence, and inefficiency”.
“The only councils that seem to have serious challenges are Harare and Chitungwiza. We now have a different approach on how to deal with them,” the Minister said.
Garwe’s comments come as the government launches a local authorities service delivery blueprint aimed at improving service delivery and accountability.
The majority of local authorities are expected to meet the deadline, with Victoria Falls being one of them.
The City of Victoria Falls Town Clerk, Mr. Ronnie Dube, confirmed that the town is almost done with its master plan, which has been overwhelmingly adopted by residents and stakeholders.
The government’s blueprint is seen as a step towards urban renewal and improved service delivery, with compliance being non-negotiable.
