Comedian King Kandoro, based in the United Kingdom and a two-time National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA) winner, has launched a new monthly comedy series in Zimbabwe designed to support emerging comedians.
Kandoro, whose real name is Mukudzei Kandoro Majoni, is committed to giving back to the comedy industry by providing a platform for rising talents to hone their craft. The initiative, named “New School”, aims to give fresh comedians the opportunity to showcase their skills.
The series will debut tomorrow at Jasen Mphepo Little Theatre in Harare and feature new comedic voices such as Josh Mukahanana, Mike Chipere, Munya Guramatunhu, David Chimusoro, and Tinotenda Kurwaisimba. However, Kandoro himself will not be performing at this first show.
Speaking about the initiative, Kandoro expressed his belief in the next generation of comedians and their potential. “There’s a lot of raw talent out there that just needs a platform to thrive.

The ‘New School Comedy Club’ is here to give them a space where they don’t have to worry about venue fees or equipment, allowing them to focus on their performances,” he said. “We will host these shows every last Friday of the month, with a diverse lineup that will always include at least one female comedian.”
Kandoro also highlighted how social media has played a role in promoting comedy. “Social media has been a game changer, making it easier to connect with audiences and build a following,” he noted.
Veteran comedian and actor Jasen Mphepo, who has supported Kandoro’s project, offered advice to the new generation of comedians. “They are innovative and make excellent use of technology,” Mphepo said.
He emphasised the importance of honing performance skills and staying consistent. “Master your craft, find new stories, and keep improving. Social media can be a powerful tool if used well,” he added.
Mphepo is also working on new productions, including a comedy show that will feature two performers. He expressed excitement for the future of comedy in Zimbabwe, especially with the new talent coming through.
