Kenya’s Men’s Sevens Rugby team, known as ‘Shujaa,’ has secured a spot in the Olympics and will face a challenging Pool B, competing against World Seven Series champions and Olympic bronze medallists Argentina, Samoa, and Australia. Only two teams from this pool will advance to the quarterfinals.

Assistant coach Louis Kisia embraces the underdog status, expressing confidence in the team’s preparedness. “We played with Samoa in Madrid and have a good understanding of their strengths and weaknesses. Argentina and Australia are formidable, but we are ready for the challenge. The boys are in high spirits and ready to face any team,” Kisia stated.

In a surprising move, U.S. football star Alex Morgan has been left out of the national squad for the Women’s tournament in Paris. Coach Emma Hayes acknowledged the difficulty of the decision, citing Morgan’s recent struggles with injuries as a significant factor. 2024 Summer Olympic Games

“Alex Morgan is an amazing player and person. Her professionalism and record are exemplary, but with only 16 outfield players and two goalkeepers allowed, tough choices had to be made. I decided to take the team in a different direction,” Hayes explained.

The Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC) is determined to end the nation’s long wait for an Olympic gold medal. Nigeria last won gold in 2000 when the Men’s 4x400m team’s silver was upgraded to gold following the disqualification of the U.S. team. The Super Eagles’ gold medal in the Men’s Football tournament in 1996 remains a cherished memory.
