“Nominations for this year’s 9th SABC Crown Gospel Music Awards are now OPEN. Closing date will be on 30 September 2016. This is a call for Gospel industry troupers i.e. singers, producers, promoters, writers, Managers, radio stations, TV stations, etc,” Sithole said.

“The number ‘9’ signifies time to push, time to give birth and a time for a new beginning! Symbolically, the World Gospel Powerhouse, as it brings the ninth offering of The Crowns, the level has been pushed to new heights and is nothing short of a new beginning.”

She said the organiser’s aim was to surpass what the world witnessed at last year’s edition considering the awards have also gone regional.

“Especially with the accomplishment of the first Trumpet Africa Gospel Music Awards held this May. These awards saw Gospel artistes from different African countries sharing the stage and contending for the award (The Trumpet),” she said.

Awards founder Zanele Mbokazi said: “This year will see the inclusion of international Gospel acts, addition of unknown and untapped talent and as a norm, the audience will be dancing to popular tunes. Also, this year’s Crowns will be preceded by a Christian Expo from November 25-27, where anything and everything Christian can be exhibited. More details on +2731 303 352.”

This year the awards will have 39 categories, compared to last year’s 36 with the addition of Best Traditional Gospel Album, Best Gospel Jazz Song as well the Salt Awards, which last year was only bestowed on an individual as earmarked by the panel of judges.

Nomination forms are available on the awards’ new website: www.theafricangospel.com or can be collected at The World Gospel Powerhouse offices, alternatively by calling +27 31 303 3520.
