Rooftop Promotions said in a statement, the play was “rare and unique in its presentation and yet unequivocal in its mirroring of the moral decrepitude of man”

Lamentations @ 12, is an emotionally and mentally aesthetic rich piece of work. Positioned through four epochs (1895 – 2015), Lamentations @ 12 gives us sight which makes us cringe as we journey through the eyes of innocence,” said the statement.

Lamentations @ 12 is a story of the stolen age of innocence. It encapsulates through a deliberate trajectory of historical and societal “norms” the lack of growth and change in attitude in various times in the human evolution …or lack of it.”

The play explores the sexual, physical and emotional abuse that the girl child is still exposed to while at the same time being “still regarded as of less value to their male peers”.

“Through carefully crafted vignettes, our writer, director, actresses, technical team and choreographer bring to life, naked in rawness various epochs which society prefers to view through stormy and hazy lenses,” said the statement.

“Days of the liberation struggle make our audience experience the cowardly and dastardly acts of our liberators with perceived bravery as a currency of main objective. Lamentations @ 12 jarringly throws the traumatic and mental exactitude through Siphilisiwe’s experiences of the catastrophic days of what political leadership has defined as a “moment of madness”, Gukurahundi.

“Chronicling being bedded by nine men and carrying out some arduous chores as payback for some murder ostensibly carried out by a long lost brother, Lamentations @ 12 through our girl child Stella, throws this long drawn out traditional yet highly challenged practice, within the realm of the 21st century and makes us question its place and relevance in a new world.”

Apart from Chiwereva, the cast also has Getrude Vimbai Munhamo who doubles as the writer of the play while it is directed by Daves Guzha.

Munhamo studied performing arts and media at Theory X Media and has over eight years industry experience including acting in Sinners Plying her trade in the industry for over 8 years she has acted in Sinners.
