Dereck Mpofu ditches environment?
By Nigel Pfunde
Afro jazz musician Dereck Mpofu has deviated from his traditional environmental awareness theme and written a touching love song.
The track titled Dzoka Kumba is a collaboration with Cynthia Mare.
It talks about a lost lover calling out for reconciliation.
Mpofu who is the Green Ambassador’s diversion has compelled some critics to speculate that Mpofu might be mirroring reality.
He however dismissed such speculation declaring that it was simply art.
“It’s a typical everyday story that happens to everyday people. Couples arguing over silly issues and being too proud to reconcile. But there are some instances where I borrowed from a real life situation that a friend went through,” Mpofu said.
The track was released last week and was produced by talismanic producer Clive Mono Mukundu with Mpofu’s own touch still very evident.
His vocals border between Jabu Khanyile and Willom Tight and he delivers a near flawless product.
Songbird Mare also did justice to his inclusion on the track with her distinct mellow voice.
Mpofu said he was still mobilising resources for a video.
“I pride in quality works and I need to mobilise adequate resources for a quality video,” he said.
Mpofu has embarked on several environmental awareness projects with the support of the current Environment minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri and her predecessors Saviour Kasukuwere and Francis Nhema.
