Diamond music reinvents itself

The era where rhumba music thrived may have gone but Diamond Musica has remained defiant and raise their head each time to cause a stir among the hardcore lovers of the genre.
This time however, the band has a gone a notch higher to prove how it is done by bringing in four dancing queens “to show locals how it is done”.
Band leader Pitshou Lumiere said they had yielded to fans cries to bring in female dancers from their country of origin, the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The singer who has been at the helm of the band since 2012 said local dancers have failed to ignite the required magic on the dance floor.
“We have been running the band with local “Queen Dancers” but patrons have complained that they wanted Congolese dancers and we have done that. We have brought in four Congolese girls whose papers have already been sorted,” said Pitshou.
Apart from that, one of the group’s founding members Lyva Hassan Sulutan has returned to the country.
Lyva sang the leading vocals on the track Sinamakosa on their album the band will perform at Jazz 24/7 at a show that new manager Justice Matsatsira says would be just an introduction of the new members before they do a proper unveiling at a show penned in for a later date.
“This is our first show which will serve as introduction of the Queen Dancers and the return of Lyva Hassan but we are going to have another event on at Rooftop, Ambassador Hotel on August 5,” Pitshou said.
He said they were also courting Oliver Mtukudzi for a collaboration on one of their upcoming singles.
“We are preparing singles and we are engaging Oliver Mtukudzi’s management to see if he agrees to feature on one of our single,” Pitshou said.
The band has not been as vibrant as in previous years but the manager says they now have a permanent home at La Rouge at Wet Gate Mall where the ladies perform at the Ladies’ Night on Wednesday.
They perform with a full band on Fridays and have a family show every Sunday at the same venue.
