Gerald Mambwere, the managing director of BONLUCK Bus and Coach (Pvt) Ltd, has found himself at the center of a fraud scandal after allegedly failing to deliver bus spare parts despite receiving payment from a client.
Mambwere appeared before Harare magistrate Isheanesu Matova, representing both himself and his company, to face the allegations brought by Mash Restoration Panel Beaters (Pvt) Ltd. The complainant, Willard Mashapure, who runs a panel-beating business in Bulawayo, accused Mambwere of dishonesty and misrepresentation.
According to court proceedings, in March of the previous year, Mashapure sought to procure bus parts for a repair job and approached Mambwere. Mambwere reportedly assured him that his company could import the required parts from China. He charged Mashapure US$24,000, promising to deliver the consignment within 45 days.

However, after the agreed timeframe lapsed, Mashapure’s attempts to follow up on the delivery were met with evasive responses. For nearly a year, Mambwere allegedly dodged inquiries, prompting Mashapure to escalate the matter to the authorities.
Investigations revealed that Mambwere had neither evidence of payment for the spare parts nor any proof of procurement from China. The parts were never recovered, and Mambwere failed to provide a reasonable explanation regarding the funds.
The State, represented by prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi, is pursuing the case.
