The City of Kings Bulawayo prides itself of its beautiful ancient buildings and wealthy cultural history which over the years has been a marvel to its visitors most of them from beyond borders.
The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority as a courtesy and appreciation to some lucky Sanganai/Hlanganani exhibitors, visitors and the members of the media on Saturday 14 September 2019 where taken for a tour to the Khami Monuments, the famous Matopos and Bulawayo Museum.
It was the first time for some of these group members to visit either one of the three world’s wonders which was an intelligent move by ZTA to promote domestic tourism.
The Unesco World Heritage listed Khami Monuments which is spread over a 2km site in a peaceful natural setting overlooking the Khami Dam is located 22km away from the city center which means that it is very close to most areas in Bulawayo.
It was a marvel to see people climbing these old walls with their families for leisure and taking a practical way of teaching their kids the history of the country’s heritage.
Going on to the Bulawayo Natural Museum the electricity load shedding was not a limitation for most groups or families who were seen touring the dark rooms using flashlights from their mobile devices and still enjoying the experience.
A member of the ZTA touring party said, “ZTA should make more noise about domestic tourism and encourage our citizens to visit these beautiful sites more often. All they need to come up with are affordable day package.”
Another suggestion from a tourist was that monthly family tours should be organized for the locals so that they appreciate more of their beautiful heritage and also make an arrangement with the electricity suppliers on such days.
For visiting tourists, accomodation is available and diverse to suit everyone’s needs.
