Durban Beaches Shut Down Following Destructive Floods in South Africa
South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) province witnessed heavy rains and severe floods over the weekend, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 11 lives. The adverse weather conditions led to widespread devastation, causing damage to property and infrastructure, power outages, displacements, and trapping residents in their homes or vehicles.

As a precautionary measure, authorities have closed multiple public swimming pools and beaches in Durban. The South African Weather Service warns of the continuation of heavy rains and thunderstorms throughout the week, with peak levels expected on Wednesday and Thursday.

The toll of heavy rains and flooding in the eastern part of South Africa has been severe, with at least 52 casualties reported since December, according to KZN’s cooperative governance and traditional affairs spokesperson Siboniso Mngadi, as shared on Newzroom Afrika news channel on Sunday.
