On Monday, the Durban High Court decided to put a hold on an arrest warrant for reality TV star Naliyani Govender. This gives Govender 10 court days to challenge the warrant and ask for it to be looked at again.

Govender filed an urgent application last Friday, seeking to have the arrest warrant, initially issued based on an application by her co-star Neetasha Singh, recalled and set aside. The judgment was delivered swiftly on Monday morning.

The case involves multiple respondents, including Singh, members of the South African Police Service, and the Chief Magistrate at the Durban Magistrate’s Court. In her affidavit, Govender argued that the warrant was issued without proper notice, as she had not been served with the interim harassment order that Singh had allegedly obtained against her.

“My liberty is at stake,” Govender stated, emphasizing that she had made every effort to resolve the situation amicably prior to the warrant’s issuance. She pointed out that despite her attempts to clarify the situation, the court issued the warrant based on an order that was never properly served.
