The Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival, a well-known event that celebrates Zimbabwe’s rich cultural heritage, crowned its Mashonaland Central Province winners on Saturday at Guruve’s Club 75.
The event that featured vibrant and diverse traditional dance forms, drew a large crowd, and marked an important moment in the region’s cultural preservation efforts.
With their captivating performance, intricate footwork, synchronized movements, and traditional attire that vividly recreated their forefathers’ traditional dances, Dzimbahwe Nengoma dance group from Bindura won first place and a spot in the national finals.
Chinyakare Arts from Guruve took second place with a soulful performance that was deeply rooted in tradition. The group’s seamless integration of song and dance, combined with their emotional intensity, left an indelible impression.
Shamva Benari of Shamva took third place for their energetic and rhythmic performance.
Ten talented dance groups competed in these provincial competitions, each with their own distinct style and story to tell. The event not only honored the winners but also showcased Zimbabwe’s rich cultural tapestry, with performances ranging from the Jerusarema/Mbende to the Muchongoyo dances.
Since its inception, the Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival, sponsored by Delta Beverages through its Chibuku brand in collaboration with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe and the Zimbabwe Traditional Dance Association, has played an important role in the promotion of traditional dance. The festival travels through the country’s provinces, culminating in a grand finale that crowns Zimbabwe’s best traditional dance group.
Dzimbahwe Nengoma, the provincial winners, will advance to the national finals, where they will face off against other top groups from across the country. The national finals are highly anticipated, with the winning group receiving a substantial cash prize and the prestigious title of Chibuku Neshamwari national champions.
