Eliot Chakanako has accused his daughter of poisoning him after a heated dispute over a house he had gifted her.
Chakanako claims tensions arose when his daughter, Mercy Chakanako, decided to renovate the house he had given her. Eliot interpreted her actions as a sign of disrespect, suggesting that the gift was inadequate in her eyes.
The disagreement reportedly escalated into a physical altercation, prompting Eliot to seek legal protection.
At the Harare Civil Court, Eliot filed an application for a protection order, alleging a history of violent behavior by Mercy. He claimed that she had physically attacked him on multiple occasions.

“She has been choking me ever since our disagreement,” Eliot said. “On November 11, she pushed me down the stairs, causing me to lose a tooth. She later poisoned me, and I ended up in the hospital for weeks.”
Mercy denied the accusations, describing her father as someone intent on tarnishing her reputation.
“My father is always looking for ways to create trouble and ruin my name,” she said. “He was poisoned during a business trip, but he has decided to blame me for it.”
After hearing both sides, Magistrate Meenal Narotam issued a protection order in Eliot’s favor. Mercy was instructed to cease any form of harassment toward her father.
