Organisers of the annual International Images Film Festival for Women (IIFF) have set August 26 to September 3 as the official dates of this year’s edition of the festival to be held at different venues in the capital.

The festival will be held under the theme Women Alive: Women of Heart at Ster-Kinekor Borrowdale, Alliance Francaise, National Gallery of Zimbabwe and Rutendo Hall in Mufakose.

IIFF programs and projects coordinator Karen Mukwasi said participants would be taken through a post-production workshop to increase the capacity of African women filmmakers to maintain their stories during editing.

“Post-production has always been a difficult stage for our local filmmakers and our hope is that the workshop will add to the pool of editors in Zimbabwe and the region,” said Mukwasi.

Mukwasi said the positive discourse of IIFF films also sought to reduce practices that do not serve and empower women.

Founded in 2002, IIFF is an exhibition platform for films that interrogate and celebrate the resilience of women against many odds, thus providing role modelling for African women to observe other women in film making and impacting positively on their own lives and communities.
