Food Poisoning Incident Claims One Child's Life, Leaves Family Devastated

A tragic incident unfolded in Domboshawa, as one child succumbed to suspected food poisoning while three others, including their father, managed to survive.

The family, headed by Robson Kaitano, 46, experienced the loss of their son Malcolm, aged 4, while his siblings Michael, 6, and Sandra, 10, fortunately recovered after falling ill from consuming sugar cane obtained from a neighbor’s garden.

The children began experiencing dizziness after ingesting the sugar cane and were swiftly taken to a self-proclaimed prophet in Mashayamombe Village, under Chief Chinamhora, for prayers.

Despite the efforts of the prophet and other church elders who focused on treating Michael and Sandra, Malcolm tragically passed away.

The surviving siblings received medical attention at Makumbe Hospital and were eventually discharged.

Nyasha Mamina, 38, the mother of the children, recounted the harrowing event, stating that her children accompanied their father to water the garden while she attended a village projects committee meeting.

She described the distressing scene of her children vomiting and exhibiting signs of poisoning after consuming the sugar cane.

Suspecting food poisoning, the family rushed the children to the hospital where Malcolm was pronounced dead.

Nyasha expressed her grief, reflecting on the sudden loss of her child and the pain of seeing her other children suffer.
