Four Suspects in Hot Water Over Theft of 26 Car Engines Valued at US$30K
Four individuals in Harare find themselves entangled in legal issues after being charged with the theft of 26 car engines amounting to a value of US$30,000.
Sesedza Makoni (29), Zadok Mangwende (20), Abedinigo Mangwende (24), and Lovemore Matimba (19) made an appearance before Harare Magistrate Apolonia Marutya, who remanded them in custody pending a bail application scheduled for today.
The alleged heist was orchestrated by Makoni, who worked as a salesperson at the complainant’s warehouse. Possessing keys to the warehouse, he utilized his access at any given time.
The quartet is accused of pilfering the engines in July, loading them onto hired trucks, and transporting them to Kaguvi Street for subsequent sale. The ill-gotten gains were then divided among themselves.
The scheme unraveled when a tip-off prompted the complainant to conduct a stock take, revealing the disappearance of the engines.
Promptly notifying the police, the authorities took swift action, resulting in the arrest of the four suspects on Tuesday. Unfortunately, none of the stolen property has been recovered.
Magistrate Marutya presides over the case as the legal process unfolds, determining the fate of the accused as they await the outcome of their bail application.
