Freeman Breaks Silence On CID Questioning
Zimdancehall artist Freeman has addressed the recent allegations against him after being questioned by CID Homicide regarding his alleged links to armed robbery suspects.
Freeman’s lawyer, Dumisani Mthombeni, issued a statement to clarify the situation and provide accurate information.
Mthombeni explained that Freeman was invited for questioning due to social media pictures that linked him to Godknows Machingura, an armed robber who was fatally shot by detectives in a Harare shootout in December 2023.
The case gained significant public interest after an article was published discussing Freeman’s alleged association with the deceased. This prompted the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) to invite Freeman for an interview to explain and clarify his alleged connection.
Contrary to reports of Freeman’s arrest, Mthombeni emphasized that the artist voluntarily visited Harare Central Police Station and is fully cooperating with the police as part of the investigative process. Mthombeni emphasized Freeman’s innocence and commended the police for their professionalism throughout the proceedings.
“Freeman visited Harare Central this morning on his own, contrary to some false social media reports that he has been picked up by police. He is currently assisting police with investigations as part of due process. He has been extremely cooperative as an innocent individual that he is. Police are simply doing their job, and due process must be seen to be followed.
“We thank the police for the professionalism they have so far demonstrated and continue to demonstrate. We implore members of the public to be patient, not speculate falsehoods, and allow the police to do their job,” Mthombeni stated.
The investigation is ongoing, and the public is urged to refrain from spreading false information and to let the police conduct their work diligently.
