Geo Pomona, a rapidly growing development, has made tremendous strides since its inception in March 2022. In just a short span of time, the area has witnessed significant infrastructure development, transforming the former dumpsite into a thriving hub of activity.
The creation of Geo Pomona was a strategic move to address the growing need to show the people that waste can be turned into something useful and modern infrastructure and facilities in the region can be established on dumpsites. Since its establishment, the development has been steadily progressing, with a focus on building a sustainable and efficient ecosystem.
One of the key areas of focus has been infrastructure development. It has seen significant investments in a stadium facility, separation of waste machines, and water treatment plant to mention but a few, making it an attractive destination for residents, businesses, and investors alike.
There has been the creation of two weigh bridges that are used to detect the type of waste, where it is coming from is also recorded, and the quantity of waste. After that, they are billed by Geo Pomona. There will also be a process of encapsulation to manage the waste that has been dumped at the site for decades. It is also being used to manage fires that used to occur at the place.

Geo Pomona also has a plant that they use to produce concrete for their sorting plant and waste management plant, and they plan to make it commercial and supply the whole nation with concrete. They have also started establishing a water treatment plant. They also plan of generating 16megawatts to 20 megawatts that will be then put on the national grid to supply the nation with electricity.
Despite the progress made, the developers of Geo Pomona are not resting on their laurels. They have expressed their commitment to continued improvement and expansion of the facilities in the area. Plans are underway to enhance the infrastructure aiming at building dressing rooms used by the football players, building a restaraunt and many more other projects.
The Chief Executive Officer of Geo Pomona, Mr. Delish Ngwuwaya, expressed their excitement about the progress made so far, saying, “We are thrilled to see the rapid growth and development of Geo Pomona. We started by opening roads because this whole place was covered in waste. We also fenced the whole Geo Pomona as it had no fence before. More than 1000 squatters used to live here, but we have since relocated them, and some are now working at the premises,” he said. He also assured that Geo Pomona is going to expand to other SADC countries.
Reacting after the tour, the Minister of State and Devolution for Harare Province, Honorable Senator C.Z. Tawengwa, said the delegates of SADC have a lot to learn from Geo Pomona when they visit the sight. “SADC has a lot to learn from here, we are witnessing integrated waste management, and I am sure that those who have visited the premises before Geo Pomona can attest that this used to be a dumping site, it was a haven of flies, and now we are expecting a restaraunt from the former dumpsite.”
The goal of Geo Pomona is to create a world-class destination. The tour was also attended by government officials, officials from the Ministry of State for Harare Province and Harare City Engineer Chisango.
