The Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry has praised the strategic partnership between NetOne and the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA), describing it as a transformative collaboration that is reshaping Zimbabwe’s global tourism profile through digital innovation and smart connectivity.
Representing the Minister, Hon. Barbara Rwodzi, Chief Director Mrs Tarirai Musonza said the initiative is a timely and forward-looking intervention that places technology at the centre of tourism growth, competitiveness, and sustainability, in line with the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2).
She highlighted the increasing role of digital ecosystems in global tourism, citing the recent visit by international content creator IShowSpeed as an example of how strong digital infrastructure can rapidly boost Zimbabwe’s global visibility.
“With millions engaging in real time, Zimbabwe achieved unprecedented exposure without significant marketing costs. This shows that investment in digital infrastructure is no longer optional but a strategic necessity,” she said.
The NetOne–ZTA partnership reflects a whole-of-government approach that brings together public sector leadership and private sector innovation to advance national development under President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 agenda.
The initiative supports key NDS2 priorities, including digital transformation, infrastructure development, innovation, and the growth of strategic sectors such as tourism.
NetOne Group Chief Executive Officer Engineer Raphael Mushanawani, represented by Financial Services General Manager Mr Joseph Machiva, said the collaboration is anchored on a shared national vision.
“This partnership is not only about connectivity, but about building an intelligent, responsive, and inclusive tourism ecosystem powered by technology. NetOne is committed to enabling a digitally driven future for Zimbabwe,” he said.
Under the agreement, NetOne will support the full digital transformation of ZTA operations, including the modernisation of inspectorate functions through integrated ICT systems, smart devices, and real-time data platforms to improve efficiency, transparency, and regulatory effectiveness.
The partnership will also introduce several visitor-focused innovations, including tourist e-SIMs, expanded 4G and 5G coverage along tourism routes, public Wi-Fi hotspots in key locations, and portable base stations to improve connectivity in remote areas.
These interventions are expected to position Zimbabwe as a smart tourism destination offering seamless digital experiences aligned with global standards.
The collaboration also prioritises the growth of domestic tourism, with both organisations aiming to increase local participation and ensure broader economic inclusion through improved connectivity and engagement.
The integration of NetOne’s OneMoney platform is expected to strengthen the tourism value chain by enabling secure digital payments and supporting financial inclusion across the sector.
In addition, the partnership will enhance coordinated Brand Zimbabwe marketing through digital platforms, social media engagement, and participation in national and international events such as the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF), ensuring consistent and impactful destination branding.
NetOne will also provide ICT tools, connectivity, and data support to strengthen ZTA’s operational efficiency and communication systems.
The NetOne–ZTA alliance is being positioned as a model of collaborative governance, demonstrating how technology-driven partnerships can accelerate sector transformation and contribute to national development goals under Vision 2030.
