Government to Engage Publisher of Heritage-Based Curriculum Textbooks

Primary and Secondary Education Minister Dr. Torerai Moyo said the government will engage local publisher Nest Hub to facilitate and assess production and the rate of distribution of the recently launched Heritage-Based Curriculum (HBC).

Nest Hub last week launched 300,000 HBC textbooks, which are ready for distribution to several schools both in rural and urban areas.

Currently, Nest Hub has at least 2.8 million textbooks under production.

Minister Moyo welcomed the initiative by Nest Hub, indicating that the government welcomes the drive by the publisher.

“We will assist as government, and for purposes of objectivity, we need to see the production and distribution books.

“Their relevance to HBC is of great importance, so the first step is to understand their strength in promoting the curricula,” he said.

During the launch, Nest Hub chief executive Mr. Tapiwa Mbidzo said Nest Hub is working to ensure that every school will have access to HBC.

“Each page, each lesson has been designed to foster critical thinking, creativity, and a deep appreciation,” said Mr. Mbidzo.

Education spokesperson Mr. Taungana Ndoro echoed Minister Moyo’s call for enhancing steps made by Nest Hub in publishing HBC textbooks.

“Production of HBC material is a noble thing, affordability is another; that’s what’s important now moving forward,” said Mr. Ndoro.
