Three inmates have been handed a total of 60 years behind bars after being found guilty of aggravated indecent assault on a fellow prisoner at Harare Central Remand Prison.
Kingswell Ngwerume, Kudakwashe Mazorodze, and Lazarus Chinobhururuka were convicted after a full trial overseen by Harare regional magistrate Loice Mukunyadze. Each of them received a 20-year sentence for their involvement in the attack.
The incident occurred on August 11 of the previous year when the 20-year-old victim, along with the three perpetrators, retired to their sleeping quarters around 3 PM. Mazorodze instructed the victim to enter Cell C2, and he obeyed. In total, nine inmates were in the cell.

Later that night, around midnight, the victim awoke to find Ngwerume touching his chest inappropriately. When he objected, he was viciously beaten. Chinobhururuka then forced him to consume an unidentified liquid from a bottle, which left him feeling disoriented and weak.
Taking advantage of his impaired state, the trio proceeded to assault him. The victim later reported the ordeal to a prison officer and was taken to a hospital for medical attention.
State prosecutor Kudakwashe Muza successfully proved the case against the three assailants, leading to their conviction and sentencing.
