Heartbreak in Tafara: Two Women Killed in New Year’s Eve

TAFARA, Zimbabwe – In a shocking turn of events during the New Year’s Eve celebrations, two women lost their lives at Kasi Kasi Bar in Tafara, leaving the community in grief and prompting a thorough investigation by the Zimbabwe Republic Police.

According to Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the incident occurred on January 1, 2024, around 0010 hours, amidst the festivities that drew nearly 2000 people to the popular venue.

“Preliminary reports revealed that the road leading to Kamunhu Shopping Centre and Tafara suburb was obstructed by a large crowd and haphazardly parked vehicles. The police were summoned to the scene, where they faced difficulties in controlling the situation due to poor lighting,” Nyathi said.

“At approximately 0300 hours, an informant alerted the police to a distressing scene near Kasi Kasi Bar and the main road connecting Mabvuku and Tafara. Upon arrival, authorities discovered three women within the vicinity, prompting immediate medical attention.”

The victims were rushed to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, where, sadly, two of them were pronounced dead. The third woman’s condition remains undisclosed at this time.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has initiated a comprehensive investigation into the incident and urges the public and media to refrain from drawing premature conclusions as the inquiry unfolds. Awaiting the full post-mortem results, law enforcement has not disclosed the possible causes of death.

Police expressed condemnation for the disorderly conduct exhibited by motorists and the general public during the New Year’s Eve celebrations in Mabvuku.

The police are urging liquor outlet operators to implement measures ensuring sufficient parking space for patrons, aiming to prevent chaos and stampedes during major events.
