Multi-commuter omnibuses were involved in a collision at the busy intersection of Herbert Chitepo Avenue and Prince Edward Avenue in Harare today.
The accident, which occurred during lunch hour, has left several vehicles damaged and caused significant disruptions to traffic in the area.
The incident involved several omnibuses that collided at the busy intersection, creating a traffic snarl that quickly escalated into a major disruption. Among the vehicles caught in the chaos was a Mazda CX-5, which found itself at the center of the pile-up.
The omnibuses, which is believed to have fully loaded with passengers, is believed to have been traveling at a high speed and attempted to navigate the intersection.
No official report had been made yet at the time of this publication but no injuries have been noticed so far.
This incident comes at a time the nation is experiencing massive road traffic accidents which have claimed the life of many people within a short space of time.
In relating news, Sgt Makaranga is facing charges for causing a fatal accident under Section 49 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act.
Both Sgt Makaranga and Mr. Chihava did not show their driver’s licenses when the police arrived.
The cars involved were taken to the ZRP Hatfield Traffic for inspection while investigations continue.
According to H-Metro, the crash happened around 6:45 AM. Sgt Makaranga, who works at the Police Protection Unit in Chitungwiza, tried to pass a Mazda Bongo Van turning onto Seke Road.
