Here Is Why Mnangagwa Was Assaulted
In a shocking incident that unfolded on Tuesday night, a suspected drug dealer is now on the run after allegedly assaulting the Deputy Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Tongai Mnangagwa.
The altercation stemmed from a heated disagreement over parking space outside an apartment block, leading to a violent confrontation that has left authorities in pursuit of the assailant.
The Deputy Minister, accompanied by his associates and aides, had parked their convoy outside Trude Mansions, located at the corner of Sixth Street and Fife Avenue in Harare’s Avenues area.
They were attending a party at the apartment block, and tensions arose when Antony Mwedziwendira, the accused, approached Mnangagwa, expressing his displeasure about his vehicles being blocked in the parking lot during the event.
According to a police report obtained by The Herald, Mwedziwendira charged towards Deputy Minister Mnangagwa, assaulting him with open hands.
The altercation escalated, leading to the suspect also assaulting one of the aides before abruptly fleeing the scene, leaving behind four vehicles – a BMW, a VW, and two Mercedes Benz sedans.
Upon reporting the incident to ZRP Milton Park, authorities searched the abandoned vehicles and made a startling discovery. An assortment of illicit drugs and substances was found concealed within some of the cars, shedding light on the possible motive behind the assault. Among the seized items were two passports, with one bearing the name of Antony Mwedziwendira.
The revelation of the illicit substances in the vehicles adds a new dimension to the incident, suggesting a potential connection between the assailant and illegal activities. The police are now actively pursuing Mwedziwendira, who is currently on the run, to bring him to justice for both the assault on Deputy Minister Mnangagwa and the alleged involvement in drug-related activities.
The assault has sparked concerns about the safety of public officials and their associates, prompting heightened security measures. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and authorities are determined to unravel the full extent of Mwedziwendira’s actions and any potential links to criminal networks operating in the area.
