On 12 September 2024, the mbira songstress Hope Masike will take the stage at the Alliance Francaise de Harare for an unforgettable Ruby Jubilee Concert. This milestone celebration marks a significant chapter in Masike’s life, and she is preparing to wow her audience with some special surprises.
The “Ruby Jubilee” concert is more than just a performance , it is a tribute to Masike’s remarkable journey. With four critically acclaimed albums and four poetry books under her belt, she’s achieved what many artists can only dream of by the age of 40.
Her discography includes Hope (2009), Mbira, Love and Chocolate (2012), The Exorcism of a Spinster (2019), and her latest release, Anotida. Her poetry books, Ask Me Again (2020), Dzevabvezera (2022), Die WithMe (2023), and Our Sacred Place (2024), have further cemented her status as a creative force to be reckoned with.
“I am grateful for this journey,” Masike reflects. “I have had the privilege of performing globally, sharing stages with incredible artists, and connecting with inspiring fans. But most of all, I am thankful to have stayed true to myself and my art.”

The Ruby Jubilee Concert promises to be an unforgettable experience, featuring the debut of the Hope Masike Trio. This new ensemble, comprising Masike and two long-time band members, has just returned from a mesmerizing tour of southern France, where they captivated audiences with their unique blend of mbira and saxophone. Mpho Muteta’s soaring soprano saxophone and Ndomupeishe Chipendo’s soulful alto saxophone added new dimensions to Masike’s music, taking her French audiences on a spiritual and artistic journey through Zimbabwe’s ancient mbira traditions.
But that’s not all – Masike has a surprise in store for her fans, particularly young women and girls. When asked for a hint, she playfully reveals, “The number 7 holds the key.” You’ll have to attend the concert to find out what she has in store.
Looking ahead, Masike remains committed to her art and her community. “Who knows what the future holds?” she asks with a smile. “I promise to continue creating music and literature that inspires and uplifts. As an artist, I believe it’s my duty to give back to humanity, to share my gratitude for being alive. Art is the soul of humanity, and Zimbabwe’s artistic landscape must continue to grow. I’ll keep doing my part to make that happen.”
Join Hope Masike on 12 September 2024 at the Alliance Francaise de Harare for an unforgettable night of music, poetry, and celebration. Be there to witness the magic of the Ruby Jubilee Concert.
