South Africa’s national team coach, Hugo Broos, is confident that his side can overcome Zimbabwe in Group B of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The two teams were drawn into the same group during the draw held in Rabat, Morocco, on Monday. This matchup follows their placement in the same group for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers as well.
Commenting on the draw, Broos shared his thoughts with SAFA Media:
“Looking at our opponents for the AFCON, I believe Egypt is the favorite to top the group…
“But we are facing Zimbabwe again, and while they are our neighbors, which always makes for a tough match, we have had the upper hand in our recent encounters, including in the 2022 and 2026 World Cup qualifiers.”
