Hip Hop artist Holy ten has openly admitted to being under the influence of alcohol during his recent performance at the Zimdancehall Cupclash tourney at City Sports Center in Harare.
In an interview on Dj Ollah 7’s podcast show, Holy Ten confessed to drinking beer before taking the stage, which led to him stumbling during his performance of the song “Pressure”. When questioned about the incident, Holy Ten acknowledged his intoxication, stating that he enjoys drinking beer after a long day.
However, what caught fans off guard was Holy Ten’s declaration of allegiance to the Zimdancehall genre, claiming he has always been a Zimdancehall artist and will never disrespect the genre again. This statement left many fans confused, as Holy Ten is widely known as a hip-hop artist. One fan, Blah Mike, expressed skepticism, suggesting that Holy Ten’s admission of being drunk was a frequent occurrence.

Mujaya clarified that he has always had respect for Zimdancehall, but had distanced himself from the genre due to its association with drugs, which he has personally been affected by. He cited the loss of friends due to substance abuse as the reason for his initial distance from the genre.
Nevertheless, Holy Ten expressed his appreciation for the Zimdancehall community, acknowledging the impact of music on changing lives, particularly referencing artists like Killer T who rose from humble beginnings.
Holy Ten’s claims have sparked debate among fans and musicians about the dominance of Zimdancehall, a genre that has faced a decline in popularity since the passing of Soul Jah Love.
While some argue that Zimdancehall has lost its footing, Holy Ten’s statements may reignite the discussion about the genre’s relevance and potency. By embracing Zimdancehall, Mujaya may be seen as an advocate for the genre’s resurgence, but his hip-hop roots and inconsistent messaging have left fans questioning his true allegiance.
