In our current society, some men no longer consider it important to marry a non-virgin.
Elder Maponga discussed the topic of marrying a non-virgin woman on the Denying Show.
“Ladies, if a man marries you and he is not the one who took your virginity, you should respect that man,” Elder Maponga said. “He is saving you from shame and doing you a favor. The least you can do is give him the respect he deserves for what he did.
You are not a virgin, yet he pays a large sum of money and marries you as his wife.” He continued, “If I were more arrogant, I would say, how can a man pay lobola for a woman who has been sleeping with many others for free? ”

“A non-virgin woman is like an apple bitten from all sides, leaving only a core with nothing to hold on to.
“Respect the last passenger who pays for everyone who rode the bus for free,” he added. “All women who are married while they are not virgins should respect their husbands.”
Here are some reactions on social media:
Norma Kay-”I will never understand why men pay lobola for women who are not virgins”
Tonde– ‘Paying lobola for someone who was someone’s weekend wife for a decade”
Ands-”Lets start at what is lobola paid for , is it done as a tradition and build relations wth the two families or is it purchasing a person because if so, then obviously you will look atbthe quality of what you are buying and compare the prices”
