A declaration of the vehicle’s particulars is mandatory. This must be done on Form 47, the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) Customs Declaration Form, which requires details about the importer and the vehicle.
The declared value must match the selling price on the invoice or agreement of sale. Clients must be aware that making a false declaration is an offense.
In addition to the declaration, several documents are required, including the invoice or agreement of sale, police clearance, export bill of entry, registration book (for used vehicles), freight statement, insurance statement, and valuation of the motor vehicle.
ZIMRA reserves the right to accept or reject declared values, especially for used motor vehicles. The valuation process follows the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) Valuation Agreement and considers factors like the open market value of similar vehicles, the vehicle’s condition, and any other relevant information.

If one is not satisfied with the determined value, he or she can appeal for a value ruling through the station manager or regional manager’s office.
As a traveler, one may be eligible for a duty-free concession, known as the traveler rebate. This reduces the determined value by USD200, but it must be noted that only one family member can claim this allowance on the vehicle, even if multiple family members are traveling together.
