In a troubling event at Bulawayo Prison, three inmates face serious charges of raping a fellow prisoner. Bhekimpilo Sinyoro, 30, Thabo Ncube, 24, and Arnold Chemhere, 29, appeared before Bulawayo Regional Magistrate Joseph Mabeza. They allegedly assaulted a 20-year-old inmate during a power outage on December 29, 2024.
The incident began when Sinyoro approached the victim and asked him to sleep closer. When the victim declined, Sinyoro returned with Ncube. Together, they forcibly dragged the victim to their sleeping area.
Once there, they made the victim lie on his side. Chemhere covered the victim’s face with a blanket, applying pressure to restrain him. Sinyoro then unbuttoned the victim’s shirt. With Ncube and Chemhere’s help, he removed the victim’s shorts and sodomized him.

After the assault, the trio allegedly tried to appease the victim by offering him rice and beans.
Court records reveal that Ncube has a prior conviction for malicious damage to property. He is scheduled to complete his sentence on February 1, 2025. Chemhere has been convicted of unlawful entry in aggravating circumstances. Sinyoro recently completed a 30-day sentence for theft before his arrest at the prison gate.
The three men remain in custody until January 25 2025, awaiting trial. They are represented by lawyer Takunda Chipisa.
