Position Overview
We are seeking a dynamic individual to join our team as a Communications Intern. In this role, you will collaborate with our global communications department based in Switzerland, contributing to the development and implementation of communication strategies that promote our organization’s mission, programs, and initiatives. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience in the field of communications while actively contributing to the organization’s outreach and impact.
Reporting Structure
The intern will report to the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, working closely with diverse stakeholders within and outside the organization. This part-time position (50%) may also involve occasional work on Saturdays or Sundays.

SolidarMed is an international non-profit development organization operating in seven sub-Saharan African countries. Our vision is to create a world where all individuals can live in optimal health with dignity and self-determination. In Zimbabwe, SolidarMed is registered as a Private Voluntary Organization (PVO/04/12) with a focus on improving access to quality healthcare in rural communities. We collaborate closely with the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC) to support Zimbabwe’s National Health Strategy, particularly in areas such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, adolescent health, Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD), mental health, and eHealth.
Responsibilities
- Content Creation:
- Develop compelling content for various communication channels, including social media, websites, and newsletters.
- Create written articles, social media posts, and visual content like infographics or videos.
- Social Media Management:
- Assist in managing local social media accounts.
- Schedule posts, monitor engagement, respond to comments, and analyze performance using analytics tools.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, media contacts, partners, and community members.
- Coordinate with internal teams to gather information for communication purposes.
- Research and Monitoring:
- Conduct research on relevant communication topics, trends, and best practices.
- Monitor media coverage and social media conversations related to the organization’s areas of interest.
- Event Support:
- Assist in organizing and promoting events such as conferences, workshops, and training activities.
- Contribute to logistics, coordination, and communication efforts for successful event delivery.
- Branding and Design:
- Contribute to maintaining consistent branding across all communication materials.
- Assist in designing and editing visual elements, including graphics, presentations, and promotional materials.
- Administrative Support:
- Provide general administrative support to the communications team, including organizing files, managing databases, and scheduling meetings.
- Data and Reporting:
- Assist in developing tools, data collection, analysis, and report preparation for dissemination and possible publication.
- Monthly, quarterly, half-yearly, and annual reporting on communication activities to the M&E Officer.
- Team Participation:
- Promote SolidarMed’s vision, mission, and strategic goals.
- Support project managers, coordinators, and assistants in implementing appropriate communications for their areas of activity.
- Contribute to the organization’s development and culture, collaborating closely with the entire country office team.

Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or a related field.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Familiarity with social media platforms and best practices.
- Basic knowledge of graphic design tools and software is advantageous.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and One Drive.
- Knowledge of or interest in the organization’s mission and focus is desirable.
- Strong coordination and liaison skills, with knowledge of health programming being an asset.
- Ability to work effectively in cross-cultural and international teams.
