JAMAICAN dancehall princess, Neelah, is in town

She says she is ready for the inaugural JamAfro Festival slated for Alex Sports Club this Saturday.

The 23-year-old, who is making waves on the Caribbean Islands, is part of the star-studded line-up led by South African diva Makhadzi.

Zimbabwe-born South Africa-based music producer-cum-vocalist, Mr Brown, Suluman Chimbetu and Freeman are some of the top acts performing at the festival.

Nutty O, ExQ, Feli Nandi, Juntal, Mai TT, Jah Master Etherton Beenie, Selekta Base and Banso are also part of the bill.

Negos Entertainment, in collaboration with Digital One Promotions, are promoting the high-profile show.

With all eyes on Makhadzi, it should also be mentioned that Neelah is not here to just add the numbers. Speaking to H-Metro, shortly after her arrival in the capital yesterday, Neelah said she was glad to be part of the show.

“I’m looking forward to a great show. I have done some collaborations with Freeman. He is a talented artist who was easy to work with even though I didn’t understand the language,” she said.

Neelah said hard work and commitment pays.

“I am one person who is committed to their work. I have been working with my music teacher, (Dwayne Morris) from the age of 12, and he has been helpful,” she added.

Negos Entertainment boss, Boniface Jana, said it was all systems go.

“We have done every paperwork expected of us to hold such a festival. We simply urge people to abide by the Covid-19 regulations and buy their advance tickets to avoid the last-minute rush.

“The uptake of advance tickets is also overwhelming and we are looking forward to a great event,” said Jana.

Similar sentiments were echoed by Luther Pazvakavambwa.

“It’s great to be back home promoting our brothers and sisters.

“Preparation wise, my brother here has said almost everything and we are looking forward to a great show,” he said.

Plans are underway to hold the same event in Jamaica.

“After the Harare leg, we will start making logistics to hold the same event in Jamaica, preferably Montego Bay.

“We will go with the five best acts from Africa, where Zimbabwe will also be represented.

“As a music promotions company and recording label, our quest is to give African artists exposure, especially Zimbabweans, who badly need it.”

Jana urged Zimbabwean artists to forge alliances with international acts.

“Through our stable, we want to market Zimbabwean and other African musicians the world over,” said Jana.

Suluman Chimbetu and Jah Prayzah are some of the stars who have worked with Jana in their formative years.
