The Zimbabwean government has issued a stern warning against individuals and groups inciting the public to participate in unlawful gatherings, emphasizing that such actions threaten national security, peace, and stability.
In a statement issued by Home AffairsAffairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe, the government condemned efforts to mobilize illegal demonstrations through social media, pseudo press statements, and letters.
He described the incitement as “subversive and anti-development,” vowing that those involved would face legal consequences.
Kazembe assured citizens and visitors that the country’s security forces were on high alert, with the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) making adequate deployments to maintain law and order.
He urged the public to continue with their daily activities without fear, emphasizing that authorities would not hesitate to act against those attempting to disrupt public order.
The minister reminded citizens of legal provisions under the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act (Chapter 24) and the Cyber Security and Data Protection Act, which criminalize incitement to violence and the unlawful transmission of data messages intended to provoke unrest.
Kazembe also called on the public to report any individuals inciting violence, providing emergency contact numbers for law enforcement agencies across the country.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enforcing the law “without fear or favor.”
The statement concluded with a call for Zimbabweans to uphold the rule of law and support national development efforts as the country pursues its goal of attaining upper-middle-income status by 2030.
