South African rapper may have come into the country for a short period but Zimbabweans still managed to rob him at least according to his assertion. The rapper revealed on stage Saturday evening that he had seen several Zimbabweans wearing counterfeit Cash Time apparel.
While he may be on top of his game bagging millions of rands in his home country Zimbabwean still managed to reduce him to a commoner.
“I have been here for a few hours but I saw a lot of people wearing Cash Time clothing. That stuff is fake, but love is love right,” said the youthful rapper.
Zim Hip Hop genre may not have much going at the moment but South African rapper K.O widely known as Mr Cash Time’s debut solo performance in the country Saturday evening at Belgravia Sports Club might be testimony that there is an audience for Hip Hop locally.
In the build up to ZiFM Stereo’s fourth birthday celebration most critics were of the view that local heavy weights were the actual crowd-pullers. Given Winky D’s history of stealing the show from foreign acts, one could have been easily fooled to think there was a repeat of that when he took to the stage before Mafikizolo and K.O.
K.O’s grand entry belting sing along hit songs like Gangsta love, record breaking Cara cara and all-time hit Mhlobo wami, a song done when he was still in the music outfit Teargas.
The S.A rapper was evidently overwhelmed by the response he was getting and expressed this in between his songs thanking the revellers for the love.
Despite the misguided spam circulating on social media about the cancelation of the show, the attendance of the show was impressive with all the sections filled to the brim.
The acts of the evening were well choreographed although the sound seemed to be a let down.
Another major highlight of the evening was obviously Winky D sampling his new track titled 25, a song that tackles the current economic and social issues by chronicling his life aspirations and fantasy of how his life would be like at the age of 25 yet he is over 30 years old and is still clinging to that dream despite the economic hardships.
Foreign acts have come along with lessons for local showbiz; Ugandan comedian, Anne Kansime filling up the Harare International Conference Center was proof that Zim Comedy could be so much more and K.O headlining the ZiFm birthday bash and living up to the hype is also evidence that Hip Hop has an audience despite the genre currently playing second fiddle to Zimdancehall.
