LEGISLATOR FACES TRIAL FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER

The trial commenced yesterday in Harare, with Sunningdale legislator Maureen Kademaunga facing accusations of attempted murder.

Kademaunga, along with Harare City Council Ward 10 Councillor Clayd Mashozhera, Noel Munhuwei, and Daudi Jessub, stood before the court denying charges of attempted murder and malicious property damage.

According to court records, on August 22 last year, complainants Cyril Nyauchi, Artwell Marwa, and Spencer Mudarikwa were distributing food to ZANU PF election agents across Sunningdale.

Driving a Toyota Spacio, they reached Metro Peach Main Entrance at Seke Road and Boshoff Road in Sunningdale 1, where they were allegedly confronted by the quartet and ten others.

The assailants arrived in a white Toyota Noah, a pearl Toyota Mark X, a white commuter omnibus, a Honda Fit, and two unidentified vehicles.

Jessub and his associates exited their vehicles while Kademaunga, Mashozhera, and Munhuwei reportedly remained inside, proceeding to vandalize the complainants’ car.

Nyauchi was subjected to a brutal assault by the group, utilizing weapons such as an axe, golf clubs, whips, and batons, causing him to lose consciousness. Marwa and Mudarikwa also sustained severe injuries in the attack.

Following the assault, the assailants allegedly set the Toyota Spacio ablaze before fleeing the scene. The victims were rescued and transported to the hospital by Good Samaritans.
